Deep Blue View News:
With a boat this size a first mate is something I can not do without anymore. I have had the pleasure to work with quite a few by now and all of them did a great job. Last week we had a first mate who was able to make something quite exciting as leaving the dock in the Marina look as if it was no big deal at all. Or was it the other way around ….. Anyway, we had fun and exciting moments and, if all goes as planned, we will have those moments again in October……J
Last week we did our first three-tank boat dive. The first two dives we did in the Washington park Slagbaai. The first dive was at Playa Funchi which we reached in about 45 minutes after departure from the marina. Beautiful coral formations with lot’s of variety with a sandy patch starting at about 90Ft. We (almost everybody…) were lucky with seeing an Eagle-ray and a Sting-ray that dive. Sadly the Sting-ray was kind of shy and passed by quite fast in the beginning of our dive. The Eagle ray was shy at first but allowed a nice and close approach later in the dive and actually stayed with us for the last 10 minutes of the dive. I thought for a while that Joanna had relocated….. JThe second dive was at Nukove. Nice reef but somewhat less variation in coral formations and coral variety then at Playa Funchi. We did not see anything particularly exciting except for one hugh Tarpon right away at the beginning of our dive.
Before leaving the mooring again to site nr. 3 we enjoyed a nice sandwich (made by the muffinwhich). Site nr. 3 was Jerry’s Sponges. This dive site on Klein Bonaire is famous for turtles sightings and did not disappoint once again. We tend to go here quite often and it is a great site for a third dive on a day like this because of the shallow reef. Lot’s of turtles were spotted during this one hour dive.Upon return in the Marina (no surprises this time…J) everybody took off as if lightning struck them and later, upon my return at DBV, I found them all back snoring in the hammocks with a hugh smile on their faces. Great ending of a great day of diving that was!
On this trip and on all other trips we had this week we had one snorkeller joining in. This young lady was so found of snorkelling, that she took every opportunity she had to snorkel even if she had to create a snorkel-site herself. I never thought a bathroom was a nice snorkel-site but it seemed to be so in two different occasions. I also find it somewhat small for snorkelling but also for that she created a solution. She just left the door to the bed-room open the second time….. I did not hear her about special sighting and neither did I see any pictures…… I just hope that she will stick to the regular sites when she comes back for diving some other time…… J
That’s all for now. Stay warm up there or pack and come down south……. J
